Dreaming and Imagining is also "The Work"

“Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.”---Napoleon Hill

A lot of times as artists, when we are striving to reach our dreams and goals, we get depressed and disheartened because we may feel that we are not doing enough, or we don’t see clearly how or when our dreams will work out; but the truth is that as long as we are keeping our dreams and goals close to our hearts, on our minds and in our consciousness; dreaming and imagining is also “the work.”  Everything you do in life can be part of the process of following your dreams as long as you constantly keep them close by. If we do that, ALL aspects of our daily living go towards your goals. The great thing about creativity, is that everything you go through in life is fair game-material that you can glean life lessons from for your art. If we all work on calming our thoughts and being more open, our experiences and the people that we interact with, can present something to us in an unexpected way.

So how do we keep our dreams close by? For myself, I am not at the point yet of fully supporting myself financially from my art, so at the day job I observe, imagine, engage; I write things down; make plans and look at the bigger picture. There have been so many times when I am in an environment or situation that seems totally unelated to my creativity and I strike up a conversation with someone who steers me in a direction towards my goals; inspires me, or I come up with some ideas or plans as I observe the world right in front of me. I use my daily life no matter how down I feel about it. I try to see how everything I do, whether I want to or not, moves me closer to my goals or sustains my life so that I am able to survive on this earth to even pursue my dreams to begin with.

You still have to take actions, but that could be as simple as striking up a conversation with someone and expressing what your vision in life is…..looking into the steps you will have to take to realize a dream….or taking that first tiny step and making an effort to take more tiny steps towards your goals…..Sometimes it becomes overwhelming to think about all the things we have to do to realize a dream we have, but goals are not static “objects”-life is evolving every day as are we, and our hopes, dreams, visions and goals need to also evolve and stretch their wings in the natural fluidity of life.
